Livingston-James 1

Blueprint Livingston-James 1

The Livingston-James project areas comprise 4,701 acres located in central-east Columbus. This has been identified as a Blueprint priority area due to a high number of basement backups that are clustered throughout the project area. The sanitary sewer overflow associated with this area occurs in a main sewer line, and must be addressed through system-wide improvements.

Surveying starts in 2035! More information will be available then.

Livingston-James 1 Project Schedule

Phase 1

Surveying: 2035-2036

Surveyors are in the neighborhood to document water flow patterns, topography, existing utilities, and other residential infrastructure, such as downspouts.

Phase 2

Green Infrastructure Design: 2036-2037

The engineering team identifies the types and locations of green infrastructure that will meet the needs of the neighborhood. During the design phase, we seek resident feedback through surveys, public meetings, and field visits.

Phase 3

Shovels in the Ground: 2037

Construction of green infrastructure involves work in the public right-of-way and street. All neighborhood residents will be notified of anticipated impacts, and Blueprint will send out weekly construction updates to keep everyone informed of the schedule and activities.

Green Infrastructure Construction & Stream Restoration: 2039-2045

Rain gardens and porous pavement sites are installed. During this time other city infrastructure work may occur, such as waterline upgrades or sidewalk installations.

Mainline Lining: 2037-2040

This mainline lining (work to seal the main sewer lines on your streets) directly reduces water infiltration and inflow (I/I) into sanitary sewers. Over time, pipes can develop cracks and leaks, allowing rainwater to enter sanitary sewers, filling them beyond their capacity. Overwhelming the system can create a sewage overflow into rivers or back-ups into basements. The lining process quickly replaces an old pipe with minimal impact within the construction area.

Lateral Lining: 2042-2044

Individual homes are assessed for lateral lining. These home improvements prevent stormwater from entering the sanitary sewer lines by getting that water away from your home and out to the street, so it can drain to the storm sewer system

Sump Pumps: 2042-2044

All homes in the project area are eligible to receive a sump pump if residents do not have one, or if the current pump is in disrepair. Visit our sump pump project page to learn more.
