Rain garden maintenance – Early Fall 2026: Record-setting rainfall and stormwater runoff across Columbus led to the accumulation of weeds, trash and debris in our rain garden basins. This accumulation shows basins function as designed, removing pollutants from our rivers and streams. Contractors are currently removing those items, ahead of planned mulching, pruning and replanting of the basins as necessary this fall. All Blueprint rain gardens continue to receive monthly maintenance. You can learn more about the maintenance program HERE

Sump Pump Update

Blueprint Columbus has concluded our voluntary sump pump program in the Clintonville 1 project area (Find your project area using our interactive map).

If you already signed up and are on the waitlist as of 10/2/2026, we will still contact you for an inspection. Otherwise, no additional properties will be added to the waitlist.

Thanks to many of you, Blueprint has exceeded our goal of sump pump installations in Clintonville 1 over the last 10 years, meeting regulatory requirements to keep rainwater out of the sanitary sewers.

Phase 1

Surveying: 2014

Surveyors are in the neighborhood to document water flow patterns, topography, existing utilities, and other residential infrastructure, such as downspouts.

Phase 2

Green Infrastructure Design: 2015-2017

The engineering team identifies the types and locations of green infrastructure that will meet the needs of the neighborhood. During the design phase, we seek resident feedback through surveys, public meetings, and field visits.

Phase 3

Shovels in the Ground: 2017

Construction of green infrastructure involves work in the public right-of-way and street. All neighborhood residents will be notified of anticipated impacts, and Blueprint will send out weekly construction updates to keep everyone informed of the schedule and activities.

Green Infrastructure Construction: Completed in 2021

Rain gardens and porous pavement sites are installed. During this time other city infrastructure work may occur, such as waterline upgrades or sidewalk installations.

Lateral Lining and Roofwater Redirection: Completed in 2023

Individual homes are assessed for lateral lining and roofwater redirection. These home improvements prevent stormwater from entering the sanitary sewer lines by getting that water away from your home and out to the street, so it can drain to the storm sewer system
